We believe your attorney should not speak in legalese

Finding an attorney who is a “real person” can be difficult. Many attorneys surround themselves almost exclusively with other attorneys and are accustomed to speaking in ivory tower legalese.  You should be able to connect with your attorney on a personal level, and he or she should speak to you in plain language that you can understand.  You will be working very closely with this person on issues that are very important to you. It is important that he or she be down-to-earth and someone that you connect with.

We believe your attorney should be accessible

The most common complaint that clients have of their attorneys is that the attorney is unreachable, does not communicate with them regularly, or does not promptly return your calls.  Your attorney should reach out to you about your case regularly and respond within 24 hours to calls and e-mails.  An open line of communication between you and your attorney is essential to building trust.

Learn how we service your area through our Remote Location Approach.

We believe your attorney should be realistic with you about costs and outcomes

Your attorney’s goal should not be to win at all costs.  Rather, it should be to achieve a favorable outcome for you as efficiently as possible.  It is important that your attorney set realistic expectations at the outset as to the costs you should expect, the concerns that the attorney has about the outcome of your case, and the length of time that you should expect your case to take.

Regardless of the nature of your case, we have an experienced attorney who will focus on your individual needs. Our team of attorneys works closely together, bringing each of their different fields of experience to bear in order to optimize our client care.

Kevin's firm handled setting up my will and trust recently. They took something that seemed intimidating and made it easy to understand. I've also referred a couple clients to Kevin - he's trustworthy, approachable and very fairly priced.

About Guardianship Lawyer Elgin IL:

Illinois Guardianship Law

Guardianship is a big responsibility that means making big decisions for those who can’t do it themselves because of age, disability, or incapacitation. Illinois law has two types of guardianship: guardianship of the person and guardianship of the estate, both serving different needs but both for the benefit of the ward. Our guardianship lawyers can assist with both.

Guardianship:

  • Guardianship of a Minor in Illinois: For minors who have lost their parents or whose parents can’t care for them.
  • Illinois Guardianship for Disabled Adults: When adults can’t manage their personal or financial affairs due to physical or mental incapacitation.
  • Illinois Legal Guardianship: A court process where a guardian is appointed to protect the ward and manage their money.

Our Guardianship Journey: The Thompsons

The Thompsons started their journey when they needed to secure a future for their adult son, Alex, who has a developmental disability. As Alex approached adulthood, his parents realized they needed to establish legal guardianship to make healthcare and financial decisions for him.

Their Guardianship Journey:

  • Consult with Our Guardianship Lawyer: The Thompsons met with our attorney to understand the process and figure out what type of guardianship would be best for Alex.
  • File the Petition: We helped them file a petition for guardianship in their local Elgin court, describing Alex’s condition and why guardianship was needed.
  • Go Through the Court Process: Our attorney represented the Thompsons in court, advocating for Alex’s needs and the family’s ability to care for him.
  • Get Guardianship: The court granted the Thompsons guardianship of Alex, recognizing our clients would take care of him.

With our guidance, the Thompsons were able to make informed decisions for Alex and his financial security. We can provide the same legal help for you and your family.

Why Choose Our Elgin Guardianship Attorney?

  • Compassionate Approach: We know how difficult it is to seek guardianship, and we’ll be with you every step of the way.
  • Guardianship Law Experience: We know the Illinois guardianship laws, so the process is smooth and informed.
  • Dedicated Representation: We advocate for the ward’s best interests whether it’s guardianship of the person or the estate.

Guardianship is a big responsibility that can protect those who can’t care for themselves. In Elgin, our Illinois guardianship attorney will provide compassionate guidance and legal experience to walk you through this process. Whether you’re making decisions for a minor or caring for a disabled adult, we can help you be a good guardian. Contact our law offices for a consultation today to get started.

Benefits of a Comprehensive Law Firm

Our team of lawyers and paralegals have extensive experience handling the nuances of your legal matter but also consider how other areas of law might affect your case. We often consider angles that aren’t obvious to an attorney with experience in only one practice area.

A Law Firm that Handles Simple and Complex Cases

Some legal issues are quick, requiring fast efficient services. You want those knocked out fast with the most efficient cost possible. But, for more involved cases, we take the time to get it right and work hard to get the outcome you want.

A Team That Collaborates on Your Case

We’ve had many legal clients complain that their last firm just didn’t have the resources or understanding to manage their case. Our attorneys regularly communicate across the firm, getting input from several legal professionals without the additional cost.

Our Skills and Services

Our skills and experience span decades and many different practice areas. We truly want to provide a comprehensive legal solution for our community. When you’ve got a legal question, we want to be the first law firm you think of because you know you can trust us to have the answers or tell you the next best solution.

Open Communication

No one wants to be sitting in the dark, unsure of what’s going on with their case. Part of our core practice model is to regularly update our clients on the status of their cases.

Relationships Built on Trust and Communication

Dealing with legal issues can be stressful. You don’t need added stress from an attorney who is slow to communicate and hasn’t given you a clear plan to resolve your case. Trust comes from knowing your attorney has your back and best interests in mind.

Competitive Fees with Excellent Service

We are not a free legal aid firm. We pride ourselves on offering top-tier service at a competitive local price. Legal solutions cost money but putting them off only leads to more headaches and financial problems.  See if our IL guardianship lawyers can help!

Illinois law accommodates certain forms of guardianship that bypass the courtroom, such as temporary guardianship by mutual consent and standby guardianship. Our article provides a clear roadmap of these legal alternatives, detailing the procedures, requirements, and the importance of ensuring the child’s protection during the process. Establishing guardianship involves filing a petition with a physician’s report, a court hearing to present evidence, the court assigning authority levels, and annual report submissions by the guardian. Read on to learn more about getting temporary or short-term guardianship of a minor in Illinois.

Serving As A Guardian For An Adult With Disabilities: Part One

It’s a big responsibility to be a guardian for a disabled adult who is 18 or older. You have been granted authority over any or all aspects of the person’s existence as a guardian. You must abide by the law, the guardianship order, and all other applicable court orders relating to your guardianship. When managing the ward’s affairs, you must behave in the best interests of the ward and prevent any conflict of interest or appearance of impropriety. When necessary, you are also required to seek out and depend on competent financial and legal assistance.
