Kevin's firm handled setting up my will and trust recently. They took something that seemed intimidating and made it easy to understand. I've also referred a couple clients to Kevin - he's trustworthy, approachable and very fairly priced.
"I've used Kevin and his firm's services since 2011. He gave undivided attention to my cases, advised me on different options and..."
"Kevin was extremely professional, responsive and knowledgeable when I came to him for help. I would definitely recommend O'Flaherty Law!"

A lot of drivers assume paying a ticket online is the easy way out, but that payment is a guilty plea, and it puts a conviction and points on your driving record with the Secretary of State. Illinois doesn't cap how many points a single ticket can carry, speeding alone can range from 5 points for going a few miles over, up to 55 points for speeding through a construction or school zone, and once you're convicted of three moving violations within any 12-month period, Illinois will generally suspend your license regardless of your total point count. Drivers under 21 face a stricter bar, just two convictions in 24 months can trigger the same result. There's a better path for many first-time or minor tickets: court supervision. Instead of a conviction, a judge can place you on supervision, and if you stay clean during that window, the ticket gets dismissed entirely, no conviction, no points. But supervision isn't automatic, it's up to the judge's discretion, and it's not available for every offense.
Before you plead guilty to anything, it's worth having someone look at what you're actually facing. We review your ticket, your driving history, and what's realistically at stake, then work to get you the best outcome available, whether that's negotiating the charge down to something that carries fewer or no points, pushing for court supervision to keep your record clean, or challenging the ticket outright if the evidence doesn't hold up. We know that a single unresolved ticket rarely feels urgent until it's the third one in a year and your license is suddenly on the line, so we treat even a routine speeding ticket with the seriousness it deserves. If you're already facing a suspension, we also help clients pursue reinstatement and, where eligible, restricted driving permits for work and school.
Points on your license don't disappear quickly, minor violations typically stay on your record for four to five years, and anything tied to a suspension can stick around for at least seven. On top of that, a conviction almost always means a jump in your insurance premiums, sometimes for years. We help clients understand the real, longer-term cost of simply paying a ticket versus fighting it or seeking supervision, and in many cases, that extra step upfront saves real money and hassle down the road. If you've already been convicted and are dealing with a suspension, it's not necessarily the end of the road either, we can review whether a prior case can be reopened or a violation removed from your record. Whatever stage you're at, getting ahead of it early gives you the most options.

Paying online is treated as a guilty plea and results in a conviction plus points on your driving record, which can affect your insurance rates and count toward a license suspension. Depending on your ticket and driving history, options like court supervision or a negotiated reduction could keep the conviction and points off your record entirely.
For most drivers 21 and older, three moving violation convictions within any 12-month period will trigger a suspension, regardless of how many points those violations carry individually. Drivers under 21 face a lower threshold of just two convictions within 24 months.
Court supervision lets a judge place you under the court's oversight for a set period instead of entering a conviction, and if you avoid further violations during that time, the original ticket is dismissed with no conviction or points added to your record. It's generally available for first offenses and less serious violations, at the judge's discretion.
