Kevin's firm handled setting up my will and trust recently. They took something that seemed intimidating and made it easy to understand. I've also referred a couple clients to Kevin - he's trustworthy, approachable and very fairly priced.
"I've used Kevin and his firm's services since 2011. He gave undivided attention to my cases, advised me on different options and..."
"Kevin was extremely professional, responsive and knowledgeable when I came to him for help. I would definitely recommend O'Flaherty Law!"

Paternity, or parentage as they refer to it in Illinois, is the whole process of figuring out a child's parents- not just on DNA test results. This is pretty important for parents who aren't married, a mom trying to get some financial support from the dad, dads who are fighting for time to spend with their kids, or any parents who are just plain confused about who does what in terms of making decisions for the child. In Illinois, paternity can usually be established with a simple signed document, but it can also be figured out through an official agency or in court.
Once you've got paternity issues settled, the court can step in to sort out other family law stuff - like making sure the child gets the financial support they need, or figuring out who gets to spend time with them, and who makes the major decisions about their life. Working out paternity can even give a dad a shot at getting a fair deal on a parenting schedule, or making sure that the biological father actually chips in to support the child. And if there's a dispute about who the biological parent is, the court may order up some DNA tests before they make a final call.
At O’Flaherty Law, we know that paternity disputes are really personal, can be super emotional, and need to get taken care of fast. Our Evanston paternity lawyers help clients figure out where they stand, get the right paperwork in order, and navigate their way to a solution that works for everyone - especially the child. Whether you need to establish paternity, respond to papers, try to get some parenting time, or figure out a fair deal on child support, our team is here to walk by your side and give you the support you need to move forward.

Paternity may be established by signing a Voluntary Acknowledgment of Parentage, through an administrative order, or through a court order. If either parent disputes paternity, the court may require genetic testing before deciding the issue.
Establishing paternity is an important first step, but parenting time and decision-making responsibilities may still need to be addressed by the court. Once paternity is legally established, a father can ask the court for a parenting schedule and involvement in major decisions affecting the child.
Yes. Once paternity is established, the court can enter child support orders based on Illinois law. This helps ensure that both parents are legally responsible for supporting the child.
